JOHANNESBURG - Calling all voters! This is your last chance to register or update your details in person ahead of the local government elections.
The IEC is holding its final voter registration drive this weekend.
The online registration portal does remain open for now but will also close once Cooperative Governance Minister Velenkosini Hlabisa officially proclaims the election date.
The Electoral Commission says the voters’ roll will close at midnight on the day the local government elections are officially proclaimed.

It expects Hlabisa to announce the 4 November election date shortly after this weekend’s registration drive.
Once the election is proclaimed, the IEC will release the election timetable, detailing key activities and deadlines.
The Electoral Commission says the number of political parties registered on its database has increased from just over 500 to 620.
The IEC says voters in metropolitan municipalities will receive two ballot papers on election day: one to elect a ward councillor and another for proportional representation.
Voters in municipalities within districts will receive a third ballot to elect representatives to the district council.
The IEC says the deadline for submissions on proposed amendments to the Disinformation Code of Conduct closed on Wednesday.
The final version of the code will be published in due course.
